HOMEOPATHY and NATUROPATHY

Homéopathie et naturopathie

WHY THE DISTINCTION MATTERS

The Canadian Homeopathic Association strongly advocate for expanded coverage of homeopathic care in health insurance plans.

Homeopathy is a well-established healthcare system with a history of over 200 years that focuses on personalized treatment to achieve comprehensive resolution of health issues.

Distinguishing homeopathy from naturopathy underscores both its unique value and the need for its specific coverage.

Depending on the province, naturopathy can encompass a wide range of therapies, including herbalism, nutritional supplements, acupuncture, physical manipulation, and occasionally homeopathy. However, the homeopathic training included in naturopathic programs represents only a small fraction of the education required of a professional homeopath. In many cases, naturopaths receive no formal training in homeopathy at all.

Naturopaths generally use homeopathic medicines to alleviate symptoms, thereby not always realizing the modality's full potential. Homeopaths, because of their training, will aim to address the root cause of symptoms, which usually results in a stronger, more lasting effect. Homeopaths who are members of provincial associations affiliated with the CHA receive a minimum of 1000 hours of homeopathic education.

Insurance plans that cover naturopathy often restrict or exclude pure homeopathic services, despite the proven effectiveness of homeopathy as a standalone practice.

Ensuring dedicated coverage for homeopathic practitioners would enable patients to access qualified homeopaths through the CHA's provincial affiliates.
